Letters to the Troops

Letters to the Troops

At Trinity Basin Preparatory’s West Campus, honoring those who serve is more than a tradition—it’s a deeply rooted commitment shared across the school community.

Principal Micaela Massacci and her staff have long held a strong connection to the veteran community, a bond shaped in part by personal experience.

Principal Massacci’s father served 33 years in the military, and her husband served 5 years, both in combat roles. Many West staff members and families also have loved ones who are currently serving or are veterans themselves.

This connection is celebrated each year through West’s annual Veterans Day program on November 11. This year, that commitment grew even stronger.

As an extension of their Veterans Day efforts, West Campus launched a special initiative: students writing and sending notes of encouragement to deployed service members.

To begin, staff and families helped identify deployed individuals who would be willing to receive a letter from a student. Once recipients were confirmed, the Legacy Leaders were introduced to the project—and immediately took ownership.

Students were selected for the Legacy Leaders program based on their leadership qualities, positive character, responsibility, and interest in service. Before writing, they learned about the importance of honoring service members and discussed the impact their words could have. Each student then crafted a thoughtful, respectful message of gratitude and support.

The project strengthened leadership skills, empathy, and community connection among students. Families expressed appreciation for giving students the chance to contribute to something larger than themselves.

This initiative reflects West Campus’s enduring dedication to honoring veterans—not only through annual programs, but through ongoing acts of service that make a real-world impact.
